Just never really had a good time here. Really can't remember anything that positive. People around here do seem to like it, though. Sometimes they have Boston sports on, but that felt like a novelty. I mean, shutup, I know you don't know anything about sports. (umm, lets see, make meathead comment today..."check")
I haven't eaten here in years but I do recall liking it a lot... The bar action is funny. People get HAMMERED here (not me of course) and chit chat about this and that...

we live in the beachwood canyon area and call Birds for delivery on a regular basis. more often than not, they show up at our doorstep within a VERY reasonable amount of time, the food's hot, and the drivers are friendly.
on one particular occasion, our driver was a girl named mee-kay. she delivered our food, i paid, i thought that'd be the end of it. another few minutes had passed when we heard a knock on the door. it was mee-kay. she had come back to tell us that we had accidentally given her a one hundred dollar bill.
needless to say, i was shocked. there are very few people that would have done what mee-kay did. most of us would have taken the money and run.
so, yeah... my experience with Birds has been stellar. and if you ever order delivery from them and mee-kay delivers to you, be sure to be extra nice to her cuz she's one in a million.
I've been doing some restaurant back tracking lately by visiting my old haunts. I'd been thinking about Birds for weeks. And I started to obsess about it! This is the place that I miss the most about living in Hollywood.
I LOVE dining alfresco anyway, but its my favorite at Birds. In my new hood (Highland Park), this is the type of establishment that is missing. A place where you can grab a drink, a one foot tall stack of onion rings (complete with a variety of dipping sauces), amazing wings drenched in THICK sauce, mozzarella sticks, and chicken fingers. Sure, its a heart attack waiting to happen, but if you're going to indulge, this is the place to do it.
And of course, the chicken (brown or white) is the awesome. Its served with lavash and a choice of sides... NO FRIES here though. The sides are decent, but the bird is the star. I would stay away from the mac & cheese. Its always kind of dry.
And of course, the bloody marys are yummy - and a MUST on any morning. You can watch the cult across the street for extra dining pleasure. The people watching is dynamite! You'll see all kinds.
Be warned - stay away on weekends during the rush. It gets kooky. And you need to have your entire party present to be seated. Parking sucks too (unless you valet). I really like to get there for lunch - or an early dinner.
The staff is always friendly and sweet... and miss seeing them regularly.
Restaurateurs TAKE NOTE: We need something like this in Highland Park! Sorry. The York doesn't count!).

Oh my god, I did not even know this place served food! What an ass.
In my defense though, we were here late at night and basically took advantage of the martini menu, which was tasty and only $8. After a very "LA" kind of weekend, Birds was an awesome relief:
Cheap Drinks
Fun Decor
Plenty of Seating
Chill Patrons
And the Scientology freakshow across the street was a fantastic photo op! Too bad the bike cops hang out on every street corner and every move you make is monitored by cameras. Creepy.
Anyway, Birds -- rockin' good time for a bar! Apparently you can get food too! Double Yay!

I love Birds, they have the best onions rings and the burgers are KILLER!! Their other sandwiches are really good too. It's really fun to sit on the patio out front and people watch too. I always come here whenever I'm in the neighborhood because it's that good and actually a fun place to eat lunch.
Birds is always a bittersweet experience for me. Only because I order the half-foot stack of onion rings when I so clearly should have upgraded to the foot! Aside from that personal failing, I find the food extremely enjoyable and the service fairly effective. Stick to the poultry, it's not foul.. sorry.
This place is awesome - spent under $25 for a whole chicken that came w/3 dipping sauces and 2 half-pint sized sides [enough food for my bf and I]. It was all very good and not too heavy. Of course being a Saturday night, it was busy and packed and the waiters weren't as attentive as we'd like. The crowd is very Hollywood trying not to seem Hollywood, meh. But otherwise the ambiance is fun and lively, the seats are comfy, and the food is yummy and reasonably priced. I wanna come back and try the wings! A new favorite on Franklin!
Okay, I know, I just can't stop, but I went in a couple more times since my last update, and it is official...
Bob and Lori are tied for Best Bartenders in the World, with the pony tail guy (sorry, don't your name) at a close second.
Really, you will never get better service at a bar anywhere, at least in this city, and for Hollywood, forget-about it. I feel more welcome here than I do at my parents house.

Cool decor, too crowded! (and my escort said this was a slow night!) the drinks were ok, but the martini was lacking, and they served me a leathery olive..ewww!
Since it was the night before the 4th, they were giving out sparklers and the place was so smokey that I almost lit up because I didn't think anyone would notice. But, with my best girl, and lots of hot guys, by my side I still managed to have a rockin' time here!

Great chicken, great service, a bit too crowded, but very much delicious comfort food that you'd experience at a (good) home cooked meal. The sides are delicious, but STAY AWAY FROM THE SALADS, which are bland and leave much to be desired.
Try to not come here on a weekend night, as it gets even more crowded than usual.
The name says it all - Birds serves some amazing chicken any way you want it. I love the good ole home style rotisserie chicken with some mashed potaters and mixed greens.
Birds has turned into my new go to spot to just relax, eat, and catch a few drinks. Parking is a bitch but I am lucky to live close enough to walk.
Went to Bird's this Sunday afternoon to recover from a wedding party the night before and all the locals were there to catch the pre-party to the Laker game.
Birds has turned into a big celeb hangout - I have seen Mr. and Mrs. Gwen Stefani, Bob Saget, that dude from 90210 with his hot gf, and some actor that is not famous enough for me to know. However, in true LA fashion no one gives a crap about these celebrities (every else people would be hounding them). Its probably because everyone in LA is too into themselves to care about celebrities.
Pros:
Relaxed atmosphere
Great food (including generous portions)
Patio seating
Hot girls
Cons:
Pricey
Slow service sometimes
P.S. Birds is right across the street from the Scientology celebrity center so you might be lucky enough to catch Tom Cruise taking in Katie Holmes for her weekly brainwashing.

Just fresh off of the plane from Philadelphia and absolutely starving, I went here on the recommendation of a friend (who said it was Hitchcock theme restaurant.) Well, not exactly uber-Hitchcockian, but really good food and cool atmosphere nonetheless. I had 1/2 a rotisserie chicken with a side of mac-n-cheese and garlic mashed. The mac-n-cheese was baked and solid (rather than goopy and saucy) which is a big plus in my book! The chicken was delicious, but much more than I could eat. It seemed a little "sports-bar-ish" earlier in the evening (as the Lakers game was being shown on 2 large screen TV's) but at least no sports memorabilia to clutter up the cool deep red vibe of the bar. After the game however, in true Philly Fast Cheap style, customers began jumping up on the bar to shake it.. what a warm LA welcome!

Why the heck is this place so busy on a Monday night? I must be the last place to have heard of this stretch of Franklin, a hipster hotspot with practically hundreds of people at the various joints late into the night. I guess I never drive down Franklin.
Came here last night with a few buddies and had the 1/4 Dark Chicken with Cole Slaw and Mac N' Cheese and the Appetizer Sampler. Both were things you could expect at Denny's, but maybe a cut above. The ambiance was kinda cool, kinda hip, kinda cheesy with the huge Hitchcock poster. It was loud. Extremely loud. I don't like it extremely loud but it was. If you're into that kinda thing you might like this place.
Overall food was good. Mac & Cheese was bland as ever and the slaw was passable. Chicken was moist and tender but not juicy. More than anything, it's just a place to get grub. Blah.

Only come for the stiff drinks, because you will need them if you decide to dine here. I tried the dark quarter chix with mac and cheese. Chalky textured chix and dry tasteless mac and cheese that resembled sawdust. The waiters were nice, but that's about all I can say for this place. If you are going to name yourself after rotisserie chix, you should at least make sure that you prepare that one dish right. By the way, the "Malyasian" sauce is nothing more than a VIETNAMESE sauce that they poor straight from a bottle. They can't even identify the cuisine that they are stealing from correctly. DAMN SHAME!!
Pros:
-cute
-outdoor seating
-Italian veggie wrap is yummy (they made it in a bowl for me without the wrapper)
Cons:
-waitress was a ho-bag
-they charge $$ to substitute their ice burg lettuce with mixed greens -- LAME
-entrees are kinda small... at least my Italian veggie wrap was
-the burgers have options for sides BUT fries are not an option -- WTF???????
I don't think I'd go back. I wouldn't throw a sh*t fit if a friend wanted to meet up for lunch at Birds. But I also wouldn't be too siked. It was just so-so for me.

My absolute favorite local hang.
I can go here on any given day and see my lovely neighbors, friendly staff, and great people watching.
The late night happy hour mid week is easy on my wallet, and their meals are filling and reasonable.
I love it here any night of the week, which is rare for any place.
Will continue to go even if i move away from this neighborhood :)

After taking in a Kimmel taping I was looking for a place to get my grub on. Didn't want to drive too far and wasn't looking for something too exotic and remembered about Birds.
Just a hop skip and a jump from Hollywood and Highland I almost drove past the place as I didn't see any signs as they were either not turned on or wasn't working. Parking was a pain as it was late and there really was no street parking, so I just parked at the market nearby and bought a pack of gum.
As we walked in the place was smaller than I thought, but in a cozy way. Decor was loud but mellow and the music was blazing with classic, punk and contemporary rock... nice, I like it. The waitress was helpful, accommodating and took care of everything we needed.
The menu has pretty decent variety for a chicken place with the usual appetizers and sides (onion rings, mozzarella sticks, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes). The signature rotisserie was surprisingly good and moist and comes with your choice of dipping sauce. I recommend the chipotle mayo and the artichoke-garlic mayo they go great with the onion rings, hmmmm.
Overall this place has a great feel and some pretty decent food. I'd recommend happy hour Wednesday and Thursday nights as all libations are half off. Its right next door to the UCB and makes a good pre or post food stop.

This is one of my favorite places in LA and I have been coming here for 10 years. I regularly order one of the following: Chicken Thai Rice Bowl, 1/2 white chicken with steamed veggies, or Chicken Strips with French & Malaysian dipping sauces. I have tried everything on the menu over the years but those 3 things are my favorite. The portions are a perfect size for me although I always have leftovers of the Thai Rice Bowl. I mostly go in the afternoons/early evenings these days but I used to party there at night. Once people get good and drunk there's plenty of dancing and craziness. And for you sports fans, there's always one game or another on the bar televisions.

I really, really dug on Birds. The food was great!!! And the portions were pretty rediculous. For comfort food, it can't be beat. Everything was a little dry but still amazing and flavorful. Sounds strange no? I don't quite understand it either, but trust me it was fab. The cobbler for dessert.....heavenly.
The service was also stupendous.

Great place to have dinner and before I fell in love - awesome place to hunt for booty. Ladies, some nights can be a sausage factory - so plan your operation booty for this joint where you're sure to get your groove on. Also, don't miss the big chicken cage in the top corner of the room.

Good homestyle cooking. I had the chicken and garlic mashed and some mac and cheese. All really good, especially the mac and cheese. My friend had the garden burger she enjoyed it but said it was nothing special. Her fries came out cold and it took a bit for her to get some fresh ones, but they eventually came. Decent service, pretty good food, and because it's pretty close to me I'll probably go back. Oh and parking is a b*tch.

One of my favorite bars in LA, hands-down. The food is good, especially for a bite before going to UCB a couple doors down. What's even better is going after a show at UCB for drinks, awesome music, and an atmosphere that isn't pretentious. Everything about Birds seems to have a sense of humor. If you're looking to go out in LA without being in the "LA Scene," but still without forgetting you're in LA, Birds is the place to go.
Oh, and I saw Bob Saget there, so that's something :)

Ok, Birds is called Birds without the Rotisserie Chicken blah blah and it's a very fun bar without the pretense. Pints of Stella are 5 bucks, drunken girls end up dancing in the bird cage, the bar is set on fire at least once a night and the crowd is different every night I go. On week nights, it's mostly the locals of Beechwood Canyon hanging out, but on weekends, it's the bridge and tunnel people from the valley. I'm fine with either crowd because I enjoy variety.
My good friend and I plan to be there tomorrow night, once again.

A solid 4 stars at that!
We stopped by for dinner after a trip to the MOCA and before the Magnetic Fields show at the Music Box. Great little place for bbq. We were seated within 3 minutes and watched a guy hit on a woman he had cornered at the bar next to us. He looked like he may have been someone's chubby brother on some sit-com. The scene was slightly painful to behold, but amusing nevertheless.
I had the the quarter chicken with BBQ dipping sauce *yum yum* and the boyfriend had the chicken tacos. Service was prompt and efficient. Had a little mishap when they gave us dirty silverware, but the friendly waiter replaced it and didn't passive-aggressive us with the cold shoulder for the rest of the evening or anything. Mixed drinks were relatively stiff. Definitely would make a return trip!

Right across the street from ground zero of Scientology, Birds is a nice little sportsish bar and restaurant. Luckily we didn't see any evidence of Tom Cruise-level couch-jumping lunacy, but it was somewhat of a weird vibe. We had a wait to sit at the
bar due to pretty poor people-arrangement and a slight "who are YOU?" vibe. I wanted to give a 3 star review but once we were at the
bar together everything warmed up. Watching the third-coldest NFL game in history between the packers and giants, we felt nice and cozy at the bar. Super loud guy on one side screaming at the TV and super skinny young brunette with strangely older companion notwithstanding, the bartender and crowd were friendly. Free drinks if you pretended to be a Pats fan and everyone seemed rooting for Green Bay. Beer was good, decent selection. Great place to waste a late Sunday afternoon in Hollywood!
The hacker war on Scientology seems to be going full force - I wonder how much longer they'll last? I secretly think Tom Cruise is taking it down from the inside by acting like a fool on purpose. If so, best role of his life and he's my hero.

For a chicken restaurant, the chicken is on the better side of mediocre, bested easily with little effort at home. But Birds works really well as a concept, allowing a chicken lover to configure their meal however they choose: 1/4 chicken, 1/2 chicken, dark, white, half & half. After the first side, additional sides are only $1 and additional sauces are only $0.50. None of the sides are particularly assertive, but I liked everything I tried. I initially declined a chance at mac & cheese, feeling that it's inclusion was just obligatory part of doing business, but for $1, I called the waitress back to give it a chance. I'm not kidding, it's maybe the best of its style I've had at a restaurant.
Friend I dined with wanted steady refills of water, but I appreciated the patient, but friendly service. We had time to kill before a UCB show, and we were never rushed. Bill was just $28 for two massive dinners. The scene is more mature and mixed than most others on the block. This will be my new pre-UCB standby.

Can someone clear this up for me: Is the place named as tribute to the Alfred Hitchcock movie or because their specialty is chicken? I thought it was the chicken, but the posters in there confused me.
I've never eaten here, but I've been to the bar on quite a few occasions - usually before or after seeing a show at UCB. Great beers on tap (mmm...Stella) and really friendly bartenders. In fact, this is (was?) the home of the 2nd drunkest bartender I've ever seen on duty. Normally, it would be annoying, but this lady was hilarious. For some reason she was waving around this umbrella and came dangerously close to knocking out a whole rack of pint glasses a couple times. She certainly made me feel more sober. That was also the same night I saw someone get into the giant cage and sing. So yeah...good times at Birds.

I'm writing from a weird perspective: "Vegetarian goes to Birds."
That said, I really enjoy walking here for lunch. It is slightly outside the immediate 3 block radius that my coworkers and I frequent- so we don't come here as often as I like (or often enough for me to get bored of the veggie options.) The food tastes great, is filling, and can be had for less than $10.
The Thai veggie bowl is really good. It has brown rice, steamed veggies, pineapple, and a sweet chili sauce. The rice doesn't taste like brown rice- which is a plus for me. It also tastes like butter (they probably cook it in butter, which diminishes the healthful aspect of the meal, but so it goes..) If you're feeling particularly ravenous, they will add chopped up veggie patty if you ask nicely.
Which brings me to the veggie burger. The patty itself isn't *that* great, its the melted cheese and BBQ sauce that really does the trick. Maaaan, its good. The bun is fluffy and crispy and whole-wheat lookin' and it makes a perfect patty holder. Pair it with a side of steamed veggies and the roasted potatoes and you've got yourself a massively filling veggie friendly meal. Best part is- its under 10 bucks.
One star is deducted because you can't get fries as a side with your burger unless you want to pay more. I understand the whole concept of 'fries can't be left on a steam table.. blah blah" but come on.. Why exploit the most natural American pairing of side dish to entree in order to make a quick buck?? Oh yeah... quick buck. Grr.

So Birds wasn't quite what I had expected. I'd been hearing about this place for awhile from one of my former co-workers. I guess I had expected it to be more of a bar than a restaurant, but it was definitely the other way around. Very Hollywood at that too.
I ordered the Italian roll up (a wrap with eggplant, sun dried tomatoes, peppers, feta, etc) that was too big to fit into my mouth. There was no graceful way to eat it, so I ended up only finishing about a quarter of it before I gave up. There's not much of a vegetarian selection (it is a chicken place, I guess), just that wrap and a veggie burger.
We got there around 6:00 pm, it was quiet and were seated right away. By the time we left a few hours later, it was little more noisy inside.
It was an ok experience, but I don't get the hype.

Grabbed a bite here before ASSSSCAT. Good beer, good chicken, good mac n chese. What else do you need? Can get super crowded though.
I've been here several times now that I live in walking distance and I have always left very happy. They have mostly chicken dishes which I love cuz I'm a chicken kinda girl. The chicken chili is deelish as are the chicken-chili-cheddar-fries. The rotisserie is yummy too and a good deal with all the sides you get to choose from.
The servers are always friendly, even when they're really busy. The crowd is a mix of Hollywood types and others just looking for a good meal (aka me). I love the whole Hitchcock theme. The lighting is dim, but not so dark you can't see what you're eating.
I really like Birds and I love that I live so close, it's basically become my go-to dinner choice.

Went there tonight for the first time. Def a bit crowded and noisy but the chicken chili was really good, I did find a few surprise chunky pieces of red pepper and onion though, and the cornbread wasn't too shabby either, a little crusty/tough on the edges though but nothing a little butter and chili couldn't help. I had a nibble of my friend's taco salad too which was pretty good and huge! Prices aren't too bad either. We also split a huge and delicious brownie w/vanilla ice cream, totally worth the 5 bucks and a great way to end our trip to the LA Zoo today. Our waiter was nice too, kept things quick and simple. Also conveniently located next to the awesome UCB theater.
did you notice how every person gave 4 stars ?
You always know what to expect @ Birds chicken cafe. It's a cool place for hanging out and drinking some beers. It's the white-man't-bbq.

Great menu, mostly good food. Wonderful tacos, near-perfect onion rings and fries, and above-average rotisserie chicken. Friendly service, even when packed to the gills.
Having said that, I think the four-stars rating in most of the reviews is a bit much. Veggies and salads are very hit or miss -- I've had nights when they were great, and nights when they were worthy of the garbage disposal. The wraps are very tasty, but sometimes soggy. Parking in the neighborhood is almost always a nightmare (not their fault, obviously). Sometimes Birds gets a bigger bar/hangout crowd than just as a restaurant -- which is fine if that's your scene, but I'm usually there to eat, and sometimes the food and service suffer a bit on busy bar nights.
Still, the atmosphere is great, the patio is fun and energetic, and the prices are reasonable. Birds is really, really good -- but not great.
This local hangout is always a popular spot for casual dining or happy hour. The atmosphere is always relaxed with aclectic decor and the adorable husband and wife bartenders will remember you by name...clearly I'm a regular. Anywho, the quarter dark chicken is amazing with the artichoke dipping sauce but you really can't go wrong.
If you're really lucky you'll come on a wild night - once I even witnessed the restaurant owner get plastered (she started dancing on the bar)!
This place was...you guessed it, a short drive from my old dwelling in Hell-A.
It's prime time people watching, as Franklin street is home to many fine establishments. It's also about Scientology star gazing right across the street from the Celebrity Center--whatever that means...you in your tower of Babble Mr. Cruise...
It's definitely a neighborhood bar. Found myself here watching an NFL playoff game amidst the locals on a Sunday afternoon.
Go here if you want to have a breakdown bc "ohmygodyou'reinLAandjustcan'ttakeit!" and get some free shots. The bartender was kick ass and a Boston native. Me likey.

In my book, wait staff and bartenders in this town that stick around for years is a sign of good ownership, she's a peach. Solid rotisserie chicken (try the French artichoke garlic dipping sauce) and garlic mashed potatoes but my favorites here are the onion rings and the chicken wings. Wait staff and bartenders are great and the prices are easy on the wallet; if parking wasn't such a pain I would be here more often.
Found myself here for the first time this past Saturday and I have to say I am amazed that I went this long without knowing it was in my own backyard!
Great vibe - it was crowded but everyone was friendly, lots of "'scuse me" and "thank yous". The music was fun too - big range (I can't remember what it was but I remember liking it). I though it was pretty cheap too, $4 beers and $6 mixed drinks.
It was all red and decorated for Valentines Day... not sure how it looks regularly. But I guess they have some sort of anti-Valentine's Day party every year where the whole bar writes the name of a person who broke their heart on a piece of paper which is then collected into a cauldron and set on fire at the bar. Wow.
There were a couple of Birthday parties going on and the booths around the edge of the bar (all facing into the center of the room - I like it!) were full but looked really cozy and a great place where you could spend a night with friends.
Music level was great - low enough so you could hear each other and carry on a conversation, loud enough to remind it's Saturday night.
I'm definitely going to go back for some lunch on a nice weekend afternoon. The patio looks cute and I could definitely see myself wasting some time there.
Parking was a bit tough but we snuck into the grocery store parking lot next door. While this worked for us at 11 PM, not sure if that will be as cool during my upcoming prolonged afternoon lunch. I did see a valet, not sure which place it was for however.
Check it out! Have fun.
Great find! We + dog finished a hike at Griffith Park and were looking for a nice place to relax and grab some lunch. Waitstaff was kind and accomodating allowing us to pick our table outside to make sure the dog was well attended to and protected from view of other less obedient doggies.
We had a nice time here. Food arrived quickly. I ordered the chicken tacos, which was a large portion of 2 shredded chicken soft tacos with salsa, black beans and rice. (Portions were large enough to bring half of it home for lunch the next day at work.) My friend ordered the mac-n-cheese which she loved! We saw other tables ordering a delicious mound of onion rings stacked vertically on some kind of stick-- very fun.
We noticed the mansion secluded by trees across the street. Only afterwards when walking towards our car, passing Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel (seriously!) along the way, we realized the mansion was the Church of Scientology building. It was a fun experience and I'd definitely come back here.
