Really solid brunch place. Had the breakfast burrito which was awesome. Staff was really nice. I was sitting by the door and in the middle of my meal, I looked over at the front door and saw a sign that said they are closing down this Wednesday. Lame.

Scouring our fair site for rave reviews, my gentleman caller and I sought new horizons for lunching this fine Sunday afternoon and settled on Comfort Cafe for our excursion. Parking was a breeze on Hyperion, and surprisingly, the cafe was not busy, even though it was 1:15pm on Sunday, prime late brunching hour for the lazy hipster crowd. We slipped into the gently cooled cafe, acquired menus, and found ourselves a corner table. It became clear that I would love to eat many, many things on the menu, but I selected the BBQ Chicken Salad for this go around, and my paramour chose the Grilled Chicken Panini. Two Diet Cokes completed the selection (nod to Ericka L. :-).

We paid at the counter and waited oh so patiently for our food, perusing their selection of magazines and books in the meantime. It only took ten minutes for them to prepare what I would consider to be one of the best chicken salads I can remember ever eating. Fresh greens, beautiful pear tomatoes sliced in half, cucumber, ripe avocado, and freshly-grilled chicken generously adorned my plate with a perfect garnish of fresh tortilla chips. That's right, whole chips, none of those stale strips you get elsewhere. As I requested, the ranch dressing was on the side. And this wasn't ordinary ranch, it looked like it had been blended with herbs and was thinner than normal, which I loved because it felt less rich and more healthy. Not to mention, it was easier to pour on my salad without drowning it. And, it went perfectly with the yummy barbecue sauce that flavored the chicken.

My companion, having just completed a rather grueling run through the hills of Los Feliz in the heat, was a little less talkative than normal, and he tucked right into his panini because he was craving sustenance. The sandwich came with both regular and sundried tomato pesto, reminding me of those awesome multi-layer dips you find in Italian delis. His only comment on lunch was that the potato salad side was a bit too "dilly" for him, but I love dill and thought it was just divine.

I've been staring at those stars above as I've been writing this review, toggling between four and five, but I've decided the superior food and extra friendly service are what should dictate the review and not the "I wish it was a little bit less casual" atmosphere so that I could take people here for every occasion. That said, it is indeed comfortable inside, with small tables lining both walls, padded booth seating skirting the place, and chairs added for another diner to join you. The staff is gracious, the food amazing. This sneaky little cafe is a gem.

Like it very much. Very much a fan. No wait service, so get over that... And can get crowded on weekends...  But food is tasty, healthy, and I enjoy the staff.

The chunk of real estate where this cafe stands used to belong to two truly great restaurants, Chameau and Paio.  However, I'm very glad that it's now the Comfort Cafe.   Here's some good things about the joint:

1.  I get a bit of a discount due to my Bodybuilders Gym  membership.
2.  Everyone who works there is supernice.  Once, my credit card wasn't working (the Visa people couldn't believe I was spending so much money at so many weird places, so they put a hold on it.)  Anyway, I had no cash and so I told the guy to cancel my order and he refused to do it, saying, "Oh, come on, I'll feed you anyway, don't worry about it."  (I, of course, went back later and paid the damage.)
3.  Excellent chicken quesadillas.
4. A very diverse menu, especially for such a small place.
5.  Lots of magazines and books lying around.

I just wish the place had better hours.  They're not even open for Sunday breakfast, which in my neigborhood, is heresy.

yummmm.

yelp was my source for some after-sexy-time breakfast i picked up with a cute boy this weekend.  this place got good reviews and i must say, yelpers have yet to steer me wrong!

the only draw back to this place is just HOW informal the atmosphere is.  the food is so, so good that part of me thinks they should go all out a little more and make it into a real restaurant.  we were semi confused about the whole set up ... who was going to take our plates ... how much / where to leave any sort of tip for clearing everything ... just weird, awkward semantics.

HOWEVER, that does not detour from the quality & general awesomeness of the food.  my guest that morning got the french toast, which was just fantastic ... it has sort of vanilla taste to it -- amazing!  topped with fresh bananas, strawberries and powder sugar and the perfect amount of crispy-ness from all the grease pan (but not too much!).  so so good.  and i got this breakfast burrito with amazing sausage and egg and peppers and black beans.  each bite made being awake before twelve AM on a saturday morning more endurable.  honestly, it was just an all around awesome breakfast.

plus, the lady behind the register was beyond nice.  while the stud i came with put a few quarters in the meter, we bantered about the menu and her usual favourites.  she was perky and sweet and engaging ... and really excited that it was our first time there.  it was cute.

anyway, i desperately want to go back now to try the rest of her suggestions.  because this place is awesome.

When they opened several years ago, it was just power smoothies and coffee... not my scene.  more recently, I have been fabulously surprised to discover their full breakfast/ lunch menu.

EVERYTHING I have had is DEE-LISH!  Egg salad is not too mayo-ey, and features capers, crunchy pickles, and celery. yum.  Their breakfast strawberry scones are amazing- and I don't even like scones because they are usually so dry.  My friend favors the tuna melt, my boyfriend gave the breakfast burrito a double thumbs up.  The list goes on...coffee is good, potato salad devine, salads big and crunchy.

The food is very "Fresh & Clean" tasting- like they are acutally using real ingredients that I would use at home...

They get 5 for the kind staff, tasty food, and proximity to my house!

Try it- you'll like it.

This place looses a star because of the music selection- i was there an hour and heard commercials and hard rock "highway to hell" for example on low volume for a lot of that time.

everything else made up for it.  super casual and intimate sapace.  small round tables with giant flowers on them, colorful chairs, a paisley banquet that warps around teh whole interior.

the food tasted GOOD man!  Don't be put off by the display case which features lonely and jaded examples of the glory that is hiding otu in the kitchen.  My friend reccomended the turkey meatloff.  i ordered the turkey meatloff plate- about $8 i think.  three slices with a side.  i switched up a slice for an additional side.  I got whipped cauliflower and garlick spinach.  Meatloaf and spinach- beyond bad ass.  really really good.  The mashed- too buttery.  The chick at the ocunter was happy to switch it for me at no charge for some greatred cabbage slaw.  much better.

finished it off with a dit coke and some sweet nothing i muttered to the banana bread at the register but didn't close teh deal with.

i like eating meatloaf for lunch, it feels kind of 1950's and it works here because this place closes at 3pm during the week.

Oh yeah- i tried the chicken salad too-  chock full of dill and really good

I actually really liked this place, but it is VERY informal.  Like I feel that they just assume people need a place to stop in after they work out at Body Builders, so it's just a small collection of table and chairs and you order at the counter.  But the food is YUMMY and the location is nice and pretty COMFORTable (ah, see what I just did?!).

I had a lox scramble and I'm not afraid to say it, it was waaaaay better then Eatwell's!  But somehow Eatwell is more of a "meeting" place, ya know?  Anyways if you can get over all that then this cozy cafe is for you!  Coffee is great and the guy behind the counter was really nice.  Also they have magazine laying around in case the friend that you are oh so casually meeting is running late.

This place was a random find, drove by the place every day and never realized it was their. To my pleasant surprise the food was delicious. Serves mostly sandwiches, salads, and breakfast. I was a huge fan of the flank steak salad, very good and filling. Also the Cali Turkey was a great sandwich that isn't your traditional turkey and avocado. The decor is warm and inviting. The owner was the sweetest lady, she really cares about her costumers and damn she makes some good food! Only open till 3pm.
