Way better than Pink's without the long lines. Get yourself a bacon cheddar dog, some garlic lovers fries with that super tasty aioli sauce, and some fresh made lemonade. It's heaven!

I'm serious about my Arnold Palmers.  I even made a vat of them for my wedding.  The Arnold Palmers at Skoobys don't disappoint, they are fant-tab-ou-lous!!  Fresh made lemonade really goes a long way to making them delish.
Now for the dogs.  Don't you hate it when you get a hot dog and it has the wierd tast of the water it boiled in?  Yep.  Not at Skooby's.
Finally, the REAL reason why I love Skooby's.  What is Hollywood for but shopping for ho-clothes?  Hitting up the sale racks at all the stripper stores?  And after trying on/looking at all that really slutty stuff, what are you hungry for........perhaps a nice hot dog?  It's a no-brainer.

Really should be 3.5 stars but I'll round up because it was really good.

Other people have already said so much.  I must say that when it comes to hot dog i'm generally easy to please, but takes a little extra to impress me.  So many places offer bacon, cheese, chili, miscellaneous toppings, etc.  I got a bacon cheddar dog and fries.  Several things place Skooby's above the rest:

1) They grill their hot dogs and their buns. I love grilled hot dogs buns.  It adds that extra crunch.  Don't get me wrong, fresh buns are great too but lets be fair, hot dogs buns aren't always fresh.

2) Their fries and chips are pretty incredible.  I think the fries are better than the dogs and they come with a great dipping sauce (which you can put on the dog for those that are daring).  The fries are the right mix of spice, garlic, crunch and soft and have a few chips mingled in.

3) Their condiment and topping section is pretty decent.  It's tough to gauge how long that stuff has been sitting there in the heat, but whatever.  I've eaten worse.

4) Their menu is simple (unlike Pink's) which is nice.  Often I think the hot dog gets overwhelmed by toppings and sauces.  A couple toppings is all I need if the dog is good enough (and it is).

Minor things I didn't like:

1) They use bacon pieces instead of bacon strips.  I much prefer strips because then pieces of bacon don't fall off.  With strips there is the danger of not being able to bite it in half and grabbing the whole thing in one mouthful.  But to me that's part of the fun.  Also, bacon strips tend to be softer and add some interesting texture.  The pieces are usually overcooked.

2) Not enough cheese.

3) Not enough seating.  There's only two tables on a crowded sidewalk.  I came here on my bike and so had no way to transport my dog home.  I ended up just holding the plate and eating it in front of the store, which I'm fine with, I just wish there had been more tables.

OK, I'm leaving my beautiful wife for Skooby's Hot Dogs.  My family and I were basically doing a mini hotdog tour of L.A. and Skooby's was on the list solely based on yelpers reviews.

Skooby's did not dissapoint.  I loved everything about it.  The homemade lookind bun.  The all beef wiener.  The glorious fries and dipping sauce.

Now the dog was as good as a dog gets.  In a nutshell it is the perfect hotdog.  But then there are the fries, hands down the best fries on the planet, and nothing beats the dipping sauce.  When the fries were gone my son and daughter finished the rest of their sauce by dipping in fingers.

The lemonade was also among the best I've ever had.  I had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners and I did not hesitate to tell him how many levels above Pink's they are.

If you wanna see a landmark, or maybe see someone famous and eat some shitty hotdogs go right on over to Pink's.

If you want a great meal made by dudes who care about your hunger go to Skooby's.

I'll never forget you Skooby's Hot Dogs, never - ever!

OMG. I can't believe we trekked all the way here from Pink's! You see, Jun H. and I went to this yelp event at SH, and were sorely disappointed to not see much food out. So after a few drinks, we decided to hit up the bank (Pink's is cash only right?), and then Pink's. The line wrapped around near the bathroom! ugh! By this time, we're starving and decide Skooby's would be worth the 1 mile walk. After a few pit stops and walking for what seemed like forever (30min), we've reached SKOOBY'S!!!

Although there was no line and the dogs are cheaper, it's not worth walking, especially  when you're wearing jellies. I mean, maybe if we drove, I'd settle for their dogs, but not by foot. My legs never ached so badly in my life.

I got a bottle of water ($1.50) and the plain dog ($2) and added my own toppings. The dog had a snap to it and the bun was pretty plain. :\ Watch out for the crazies while sitting on the street tables... Next time, I'll try their famous fries and handmade lemonade.

They have pretty good dogs... tasty and full of heart attack juice.

Plus there's rarely a line and they're pretty quick.

I'll start with the fact that I walked here from Pink's, because:
1) I've never been.
2) The guy told me over the phone that there would be a 0-2 minute wait as I stood in a trailing long line at Pink's.
3) I totally underestimated 1.3 miles.

I'm not sure why there's even a Pink's vs. Skooby's battle.  In my mind, it's no contest!  Pink has so much more variety and the dogs are much better!

The dogs are small at Skooby's but the prices are fair.  I got the Garlic Lover's dog ($3) and it delivered!  The garlic topping had a hint of spice to it and made my tongue burn a tad.  Needless to say, I had vampire-vanquishing breath well into the next day (and I Listerined too!)

Ran into this place by accident as a visitor to the area.  For $2.50 we got a hot dog loaded with grilled onions.  Everything seemed fresh and my daughter loved their french fries.  Honestly, it's so expensive to eat out for every meal when you travel that this was a nice change of pace.  Three of us ate lunch and only spent $15 including sodas.  It's super tiny though, so just know ahead of time that you might not be able to eat there.

It's no Chicago style dog, but it's still a good hot dog.
I dig this place because:
-orange soda
-grape soda
-grilled buns
-cheese/garlic aioli sauce with your fries
-tater fries
-fast and cheap!

This place is hiding on Hollywood Blvd. I lived up the street for over a year and never noticed this place. It's sooooo in the cuts but once I found it I was like "that's a damn good hot dog!" They give you all the topping too, ketchup mustard, mayo, relish, jalapenos etc. But beware! BRING YOUR CASH, they don't take credit cards. I found myself wandering down Hollywood blvd looking for an ATM machine. I found one two doors down but it cost me $2 bucks to get $20. :(

Skooby's is alright.  If you really want to just want to get a little fatter on hot dogs and don't want to wait in line at Pink's it's your answer.  It is definitely not too special though except for the garlic fries.  Oh yeah.  They are cooked in garlic then come with this awesome garlic dipping sauce.  The bun was a little special, but it was really just run of the mill.

Just go wait in line at Pink's, it's worth it.

The soy dogs are great. You can dress them yourself with relish, onions, mustard, ketchup, a ton of stuff.

The freshly cut fries are why they get 5 stars.

So, I have heard amazing things about Scoobys Hot Dogs and I actually work within walking distance from them.

Me and a co-worked decided to try them out today so we head down there arriving around 11:30am. Walked in and were ready to order.

Now keep in mind, they really only serve Hot Dogs, this is there specialty.

We get ready to order and we are informed that while they have hot dogs, they actually dont have hot dog buns!! Asking when the buns would arrive the person at the counter was not quite sure.

Why even open then!

I will give it another try when they have buns, but come one guys, your in Hollywood during a busy summer season. Make sure you have buns!!

I like Skooby's dogs....they're tasty with a little snap.  If you order a bacon cheddar dog ($4), you'll probably have to get an order of fries to get full.  Luckily for me at stopped by at the Cat and Fiddle before this =)  The best part of the hot dog was the x-tra crispy bacon.

Pinks gets it's share of customers but skip the crowds there and come to Skoobys and get your food in 5 min as opposed to 40.  Get out to Jersey and NYC for some serious dogs if you can.

It's too bad the Hermosa Beach location closed.  It was hella closer than Hollywood.

I've been coming to Hollywood for 6 years and Skooby's has alwaysbeen a must of things to do. I'm sad to say not anymore. What happened to the cute little punk kids that used to work the counter?? Although, the fries are awesome the hot dogs have gone down the crapper. I'll never come back to Skooby's, now I gotta try Pinks.

I avoid Hollywood like it's the plague. It's loud, crowded, dirty in select areas, and way too scene-y for my liking. And really, if you think about it, the people in Hollywood (especially those on Sunset or near the Walk of Fame) probably do have the plague.

But I had to go to Silverlake over the weekend and decided to stop by Skooby's for lunch. I've been searching for the perfect dog in LA so I gave it a shot.

I had the turkey dog with fries and a lemonade. The hot dog was decent. Nothing spectacular but as good if not better than Pink's. But the FRIES! Those lovely, seductive strings of fresh taters, yummy. The red pepper aioli they serve with it is absolutely delicious.

Unlike everyone else, the lemonade is a little too sweet for me but the Arnold Palmer is perfect.

There was also no line and it seemed like a neighborhood spot instead of every other tourist trap on the strip. Bonus for easy parking on the street and not causing food coma. I'll rendezvous with those fries anytime.

I don't even like hot dogs and this place is rad. It smokes Pinks (although Pinks does have a rad Axl Rose circa 1987 photo on their wall) and there's never a wait. Plus, right below it they used to have punk shows with The Weirdos, X, Black Flag, etc. Now if you could just get em to take the Sum 41, Mxpx and pop punk crap off their playlist.....

What can you say they are serious about their wieners.
I've had their Garlic lovers, quesadilla and chili cheddar dogs. All of which were pretty good. However my favorite thing at Skooby's is their fries' sauce. They could actually have it be a pretty good hot dog topping.

For quick easy food on the boulevard covered in tattoo parlors and cheesy tourist traps hit up Skooby's for an honest American meal; you know you're not finding decent food here on the cheap ("New York" pizza my ass).  Not only do their beef franks on  pretzel-bread (I think) buns do the trick, but their fries with potent garlic aioli, which must be laced with crack, kill your appetite with face-melting precision.  Wash it down with an Arnold Palmer and you'll be in food coma heaven.

After Shauna's Wing crawl, I headed over here since we ended the crawl at Hooters near Highland and I missed the first stop at Big Wangs. I was still hungry so I stopped by here to see what the hub-bub was about.
I ordered an original dog, a garlic lover's dog and a small order of fries.  The miniature toasted french style bun was nice, but I'd prefer just a warmed or steamed hot dog bun. The garlic lover's dog consisted of chopped garlic toasted on the bun with just the naked dog nestled inside. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. I'll have to head over to Pink's soon to compare. But the fries were crispy and nicely seasoned with a great aioli on the side.  These could easily be considered amongst the best in town.  Here's where my dining experienced turned....

The mood got ruined by some racist punk ass kid (well early twenties are kids to me) beating & kicking a homeless guy. Dropping "n-bombs" and screaming at this guy caught my attention and i put my dog down and made my way over. By the time I got nearby, the jerkoff and his buddy took off.  I screamed out "Hey pu**y, you little a**hole, get back over here. Deal with someone who can fight back!"  Wait a minute... WTH was I doing??  I haven't been in a "fight" since high school...but I had some pent up frustration that I could easily unleash on this guy wrapped in the cloak of "defending a fellow human being".
Luckily another motorist saw what went down, and followed him while calling 5-0.   The knuckleheads were eventually picked up and taken off as my immature self smiled and waved them on their way.

I don't eat hot dogs a lot. But every once in a while I get a craving. So today I walked to Skooby's on my lunch break. I sat inside watching the cooks & listening to the punk rock. I had the original hot dog with sauerkraut, mustard & ketchup. The fries with aioli sauce were great. Yummy ! I had to use a lot of napkins. I left very satisfied. And I didn't even get heartburn...

better alternative to ridiculously long lines at Pink. Hot dogs at 2 bucks a pop isn't bad price--Hollywood is pricey. I would get 2 with regular fries (to share) and lemonade for a quick lunch for two. Sauce for their fries is PERFECT!!

this place is one of my guilty pleasures. guilty because it's probably taken years off my lifetime expectancy.

the garlic fries are crazy delicious. so, so good.

i get the chili cheese dog. very good. i've yet to try the chili chese bacon dog but i know i will some day.

the lemonade which they make there is also very tasty.

i guess it's a bit pricey for a hot dog joint, but it's definately worth it.

i usually end up stumbling here drunk off my ass after dancing at bar sinister, which is next to boardners. it's about a block or two away and perfect for satiating a mad drunk munchy binge.

the staff is pretty funny, usually young tattoed up alternative kids who laugh at all the drunk a-holes over-ordering this deliciously deadly indulgence.

I don't understand what's so great about Skooby's. I like Skooby's better then Pinks but that's not saying much.  My friend wasn't impressed either since they got his order wrong. The only thing I dug was the fries with the aioli sauce.

Since I've had hot dogs on the brain lately, I've been looking for the best here in Los Angeles. After sinking to the depths with a Costco's dog yesterday, I ventured over to Skooby's to finally taste what all the hype's about.

The sign says the dogs are all beef encased dogs which means it comes in some inner body part (intestines?).  Most good quality dogs are made this way.  I asked and they are not kosher. While It didn't have the crunch and then "spring" you get when you bite into a true kosher dog that's been steaming for a bit, it still had decent flavor. The bun was a bit doughy but with everything on it, it all went down better than my Costco dog.

Now about those fries....I could do the review on those alone!  With seasoned salt and aiola sauce (perhaps garlicky thousand island dressing?) Yeah baby! Though too many to eat, I would come back here for those anytime.

It's hard to beat a good hot dog & a glass of lemonade on a warm day.  It's a tiny place with three small tables and an outdoor counter area right on Hollywood Blvd along the Walk of Fame.  I've never seen any long lines there.  Very friendly and diligent workers behind the counter.  Having said that, it is rather pricey for a hot dog joint.  Cash only.

Since moving out of Miami, I never thought I'd be able to find a replacement for the amazing "Dogma" hot dog bar.  Skooby's comes damn close.

My first time there was at 3 in the morning, with a group of friends after a night out.  I took a chance on the Quesadilla-dog, and I enjoyed it quite a bit.  I returned for lunch a couple days later, and absolutely enjoyed it.  The casing on the dog is perfect, the fries are amazing, and the fresh lemonade is really a treat.  All of this can be enjoyed from their seating on the Hollywood blvd. sidewalk, where entertainment is provided by blaring classic rock, and watching the tourists try not to look local vagrants in the eye.

The only reason I'm deducting a star from Skooby's is the lack of sesame-seeds on their buns.  The aforementioned "Dogma" has become my absolute gold standard in hot-dogs, and Skooby's buns lacked the love that was oh, so evident back in South Florida.  Once that missing piece of the puzzle is fixed, Skooby's will be on par with the best hot dogs of my life.

Scoobys is YUMMY!

A couple of friends and I were hungry while drinking at Pig N Whistle's and thought we would hunt for some bacon wrapped hotdogs. However, it was still to early and the bacon carts weren't out yet. We stumbled across Scoobys and thought we'd give it a try.

The hotdogs are oh so yummy. And I love the potato fries with the aioli sauce, which was even better. The lemonade was pretty tasty as well. And btw, we weren't drunk in anyway.

Give Scoobys a try when you're out on Hollywood and Cherokee and you'll be happy that you did.

There's No Need to Fear, the LA hot dog is here! Who's got the best dog in LA? Here's review #1 of the search for the best LA Hot Dog.

The dog was good, but didn't stand out. It had a bite to it, skin had a good crunch on the outside. But the bun was more of a french roll than a hot dog bun.

Chili was so so. Seemed homemade, but had too much chili powder or paprika in it. I prefer the chili from Pinks or Carneys. Fries stood out more here than the hot dog.

Eating a hot dog on Hollywood Blvd isn't as fun as it seems. The music is blaring oldies and blvd bums keep walking buy and eying you for money. There was no line here on a Sunday afternoon (unlike Pinks)

My search continues...

Skooby's is a little hotdog shack that is somewhat of a Hollywood landmark/icon and is conveniently located right down the street from me.  I was first introduced a little over a year ago, when one of my fellow tenants was returning from a take-out run.  Our conversation went as follows:

Me: Smells good.
Him: Of courth ith good.  Ith Thkoobyth.

The following week I decided to locate this "Thkoobyth", although I did pass the place once before I figured out the literal lisp translation.

Unfortunately, to my extreme dissapointment, Skooby's only serves hot dogs and fries.  I love fries, I mean who doesn't right, but hot dogs, no-so-much.  Between the texture, shape, casing, and various anotomical pork/beef parts used in their production, the whole thing is a bit creepy.  I'm just not a fan.

Fortunately for Skooby's, their chili cheese fries and fresh squeezed lemonade are it's saving grace.  The fries are bangin and the lemonade mouth watering, and if you're a camel like me you can purchase a refill for only $1 rather than having to buy a whole nother beverage like some janky spots will make you do.  So points for all that.  The fries and the lemonade make Skoobs a great spot to stop by for a quick between meal snack, or a cure for the munchies if you partake in such things.

My one suggestion to this fine establishment would be to diversify their portfolio a little bit.  I know the purists will crap their pants reading this, but I really do think they should offer either a turkey or chicken sausage alternative for those of us who don't like standard dog fare.  Yes I know, it's a bit prententious, but this IS Hollywood, right?

All in all, Skooby's is a solid estblishment, with a great product and some local flavor/history, that perhaps could use some broadening of their menu options.  Regardless, I highly recommend you give it a try next time you're in the area.  Juth don't athk people with lithpth for directionth.

Edit (1/11/08): Jessica D. has informed me that they do indeed have a beef/pork alternative.  My mistake.  Guess I gotta go back now and try it!

Scoobys is officially greater than Pinks. There I said it. Sure, they have a smaller menu, but sometimes smaller is better. And one thing that definatly isn't small is the big box of fries. MMMM. Also, that sauce that comes with the fries = to die for.

Scoobys is great to sit down, relax, listen to the Damned (which is often playing) and enjoy some half lemonade half ice tea delight.  Also, go to their website (or I think there are cards you can fill out at the store) and sign up for their email list. I have been bombarded with "save $5 coupons" and I love it!!!

Skooby's hot dogs are hit or miss. The ones we had last night were cold and dry. The fries are always GOOD though. I could eat some Skooby's fries right now.

A place for a true connoisseur. Simplicity is best. There are four options in any combination; with Chili, with chesse, with chili and chesse and grilled onions. You can taste the difference in the meat used by Skooby's and the other place on Melrose. Skooby's has a better hot dog.

The French Fries are made fresh and the staff is friendly. Their Coca- Cola products are iced cold and kept in a refrigerated cooler. The bottled Coca-Colas are from Mexico, and we all know those are made with real sugar.

Skooby's is my favorite hot dog joint in LA.  The hot dogs themselves are simply delicious, and all the toppings just enhance the flavor.  I'm a big fan of the bacon cheddar dog.  The other toppings sound tasty, but I just always seem to be in a bacon-y mood when I go and can't seem to venture outside of that.  (Turkey and veggie dogs are able to be substituted for any of the options).

The fries are great, especially with their aioli sauce.  I tend to share these with a friend if I get them though as it is quite a lot of fries.

Also noteworthy is their lemonade, which I like to enjoy in the form of an always thirst quenching Arnold Palmer.

Yay for Skooby's!!

It seems like lately if I am anywhere even near the location I make a special stop at this place!

Health food it is not, but what it lacks in health it makes up for in taste! I usually get a chilli cheddar dog, but yesterday I branched out and got chilli, cheddar, bacon and grilled onions. I finished that off with some chilli fries and a home made lemonade and I was all set.

Of course... I didn't eat all of this by myself. I almost always share with a friend. :)
